The Tao of Gaming

Alert!

I have beaten Guitar Hero III on medium.

That is all.

TPS:
Congrats! I'm on tier 5 on medium. No five-star ratings, yet. And only a couple four stars.

Grrrr, and I haven't even been able to get a Wii yet, let alone GHIII. And to think, 2 months ago I was in CC on a day they were both actually in stock, but stupid me, I'd promised my wife I wouldn't get one until after we moved. Dumb.

Are you going to start on Hard now, or are you burned out?

Nice. Good job. If you're like me, you'll find the transition to Hard is like walking off a cliff...the scaling in GH3 is awful. I'm stuck on Lou in Hard right now (and possibly forever), but have beaten a few Expert songs.

If you're digging the rhythm game idea, and know someone who has it, you should really try Rock Band. I thought GH3 was the best thing of all time, but RB is best^2.

You havent REALLY beaten it on a level until youve beaten the Dragonforce song on that level :P

I've beaten the first 5 tiers and 2 from the 6th on expert but I can barely even get through the beginning of Dragonforce on hard.

I actually tried a few hard songs last night, and failed them all. But I came home after work and beat two songs in 30 minutes (needing practice for the final part of one). I find that if I fail at a song then I just stop and the next session I usually pass it on the 1st or 2nd try. A strong argument for muscle memory.

I beat Lou on the first try, but still haven't beaten Morello on medium. Despite hitting 90% of my notes, he just won't die ... even when I triple whammy during his solo. He gets into flashing red, then recovers).

The closing credits song (by Dragonforce) is obscene. I did go back (midway through medium) to beat the easy version, I figure I'll try again for the medium version when I'm 1/2 way through hard. I've ignored the songs you can buy, since I don't recognize a single one of the artists. I have started looking for Muse in used CD stores, though.

I'm tempted by Rock Band, but I've only had GHIII for 10 days.

Unfortunately Rock Band hasn't even been announced for the Wii. I'd be shocked if they didn't release a port, but I'm getting a little nervous. While I'd prefer a Wii I sure don't want to end up not being able to get Rock Bank.

Muscle memory is definitely critical. Wait until you play Muse on Hard! Let alone Raining Blood, which is just ridiculous. I can't believe the stuff on youtube with Dragonforce...I can barely get to the end on Medium, let alone FC it.

I don't understand why you can't beat Morello...maybe it's a question of when you're unleashing your attacks? I had little trouble with him or Slash on Medium, but I do recall Morello taking longer to get to his "dense" note charts where you can really pound him.

I desperately wanted RB to be on Wii, but I caved and got a 360 (Wii60, whee!). I now appreciate even more what Nintendo brings to the table, pretty much across the board. But I don't regret the purchase, as it's been probably the most fun I've ever had videogaming, esp. when you have people over and all four slots are filled. Just a blast. And the 360 has some other cool things (Settlers and Carc on XBL, and my kids love Viva Pinata).

The muse song is insane on hard or expert. On hard they give you breaks and I can make it through, and on expert they dont.

I got 98% of the intro section on expert Dragonforce on 'slow' in practice mode! :p Took like 4 hours of practice.
